Glad it's not just me!

12 days after my last post...

I finally have time away from everyone/everything and am sitting at the public library catching up on people's blogs. I haven't logged in to FB yet, as I will save that for when I have more time. But, as the title of this post goes, I'm glad it's not just me who has been deficient in posting lately!

So, here's the update:

SCHOOL IS OVER! I HAVE A JOB FOR NEXT YEAR! I'M GOING TO BE WITH THE SAME TEAM OF TEACHERS! Students went home for the summer on Thursday, and teachers on Friday. Thursday afternoon (making me sweat, of course) the principal came around to tell me that I would be in the same room with the same team and that I needed to come by his office to sign my contract. Whew! I've been praying, and since the fiasco in Tuscaloosa, I trust nothing (well, you know, except God) when it comes to job assumptions. So, it's a relief to know that I have a mortgage I can pay for for another year at least.

WE'RE GOING ON VACATION! Seriously, I have never been on a beach vacation (Jamaica doesn't count since it's technically a "Carribean Vacation" that has a beach) and I am so totally pumped. And I might just mention that I'm excited to have other hands around--the rest of the Beaver family--to help out with Elsie while I READ!!!! I haven't read a book in a while (my ulterior motive for coming to the library--get some beach reads). Rest assured, we are going to the Atlantic Ocean beach, which I haven't seen since summer 2008, when I glimpsed it from afar in Atlantic City, and before that in 1993, when we went to visit my aunt and uncle and almost-3-year-old cousin in Kingsland, GA. Long time ago, for sure.

I FAILED AGAIN! Had my whatever-week appointment (I'm just not keeping up as well with 2.0!) last week and bombed the glucose tolerance test this time around, too. I was going to wait to take the 3-hour test until after I had some Paula Deen cookin', but the logistics got me. I had to go yesterday intermittently as I finished out my last day of school. Thankfully we had a luncheon right after, so my fast was broken in grand style. I'll probably get the results next week, and I'm praying that I'll get them after I have the aforementioned victuals.

ELSIE LOVES CHOCOLATE! If you've been on FB (which, again, I haven't been in almost...5 weeks??? Geez. I think that's longer than the Lenten season), I'm pretty sure Eli posted some pictures that his dad took of Elsie enjoying her birthday cake, mostly the icing. It was too cute. Next week, in my leisure time, I'll post some more pictures that I took. Her party was a success. Her blue gingham dress was a hit. Her red shoes were to die for. My little Dorothy. (Wizard of Oz themed party.)

And that's the news that I can think of before my allotted time on the library computer runs out. Thanks for keeping up with me, even though I've been AWOL from the cybersphere.

Cheers.

Actual Day-of Post

Want to know what's been going on for the past 2 or 3 weeks? Catch up with the last two posts...

But this is today. Monday. May 10. I put Elsie to bed and decided I would give Charter one last chance. I spent over half and hour while watching DWTS trying to get this Internet up and running, and it worked. Finally. Geez.

Friday night, Eli and his friend C moved our living room furniture and the dining room chairs to the new house. We've been sitting on the floor ever since. Saturday he took Elsie to Mobile. I opted not to go because I am t-i-r-e-d of being on the road. It was a nice rest day for me. I got a lot done, but mostly I got a break that was much needed. I ran some errands and when to my friend's house to sew Elsie's dress for her birthday party next week.

The Internet at home is still sketchy, so if we're gone for a couple for weeks, don't worry. We're around. We're just blacked out.

And here are some pictures from today and yesterday:

1 year!

[This post was written after Elsie's birthday, but I dated it for the day so I can find it later.]

I can't believe the time has flown by. Elsie is one year old already!

She's not walking, but she is experimenting more and more with the 2-legged mode of ambulating. She said farewell to her first year by falling face first into the floor at J's house 30 minutes before she would be exactly one, and ended up with a goose egg on her forehead.

We're still working on the table food thing, and the sippy cup thing. And I'm playing around with the idea of pacifier weaning. We'll see. We go to the pediatrician for her 1-year stats sometime in the middle of next week.

Here's some pictures I took in the morning before the big goose egg:

Cheers.

Hiatus

This post has been backdated. I wrote it over a week ago and then had technology issues.
-------------------------------

I know it hasn't been an eternity since I last posted, but for someone who posts frequently, this is an absolute dry spell. We've been too busy. And now I'm just trying to catch up on my rest, trying not to overdo it. And our Internet at home is broken (I hate Charter) and we haven't been around during business hours to get it fixed. I'm sending this as an e-mail from work, and I hope this is the right address. [It wasn't.] So, here are the highlights (and lowlights) of the last week or so:

1. We closed on our house on Monday, and are now, officially, first time homebuyers. It was just too easy to sign our lives away! I never thought I would ever put down roots, so this is huge for me. Our lease on the apartment continues through the end of June, so we're going to try to take our time in moving, getting the big stuff over to the new house pretty quickly, and then I'll spend sometime sorting through the little stuff, making sure we're not moving junk/trash/things we haven't used since we moved into this place two years ago. I'm hoping we'll be able to make the sleeping transition to the new house by the end of May.

2. Elsie started walking on Monday; that is, she started taking more than one step at a time. She's now up to 4 or 5 steps before sitting or plopping back down. I was at Sylvan when Eli called to tell me. Monday was a big day for all of us. She's also cutting a third tooth, to make its debut any day this week--an upper canine tooth.

3. Elsie is sick for the first time. Sort of. I don't know. She doesn't have a fever. She doesn't have diarrhea. But on Tuesday night, seconds after Eli left to go observe a Kaplan class, she threw up all over me and the (thankfully microfiber) couch. Mostly formula. A day's worth. So, as Super Mom, we went into rescue mode, and by the time I had her in the bathtub she was splashing and kicking and laughing. Put her to bed. A few hours later she woke up crying from hunger. Eli gave her a half a bottle, and a little while later, that too came up. Yesterday I took her to J's. They had a good day with no vomit. I get her in the car headed over to Hobby Lobby, and she's talking and cooing the whole way. We pull into the parking lot and then Elsie throws up. So we head home, all the while she's making raspberries and cooing in the backseat. Bath. Change of clothes. We go to church and then home. I feed her before bed because she hasn't eaten in many hours. I hold her upright until she's almost asleep, probably for about 30-45 minutes. I go to sleep at 8 because I'm exhausted, but wake up from heartburn at 10 something (Eli is studying out in the pool house), and right then I hear her wake up and throw up. I go get her, clean her up, try to wash the puke out of her hair, change her pajamas. Eli comes in and changes her sheets, I take her into the bathroom to wash her face and she throws up all over me and her clean pajamas. Sigh. This morning she is lethargic, trying to be pleasant, but she's not feverish. This is the first time she's really been under the weather quite like this.

4. There are three weeks of school left (Woohoo!!!). And for some reason, our curriculum map puts the research paper last. So, this week has been VERY stressful trying to get these 13-year-olds who have already mentally checked out to care about MLA formatting and to remember how to use the index of a book (and where it is found, even!). Why did I do this to myself? My sanity may suffer a major toll from this.

5. Eli had a job interview. He did not get the job. Now we're moving on to the next possibility, and praying about it.

6. We are recommitted to our "TMMO" and debt snowball, for all you Dave Ramsey fans. Moving two years ago really got us off track, but now that we've taken on this huge house debt, and now that we see the light at the end of the tunnel for my students loans and our credit cards, we are eager to get back to being "gazelle intense". No new washer and dryer. No new furniture. No new car (though the Saturn is 15,000 miles away from the 200k mark). Not until we get it all paid off, except for the house. And we have tickets to go see Dave in Atlanta in OCTOBER!! I'm excited. We're also exploring the possibility of facilitating Financial Peace University in the fall--nothing official, just some dreams and desires.

So, that's the good with the bad. That's our life this month. I'll be glad when April says "adios" on Friday. :)

Cheers.

Where in the world?

These last two weeks have been travel-full. And then when we get home, we are Internet-less. So, that's where I've been. Traveling and hanging out in limbo.

This weekend our adventures took us to Hattiesburg, MS. We left after school on Friday to start the drive, finished the drive this morning. Stayed at the family reunion (Eli's paternal grandmother's side of the family) for a couple of hours and then started the drive back home. In the pouring rain. All legs of this trip.

Finally, in Mobile, we decided that we needed to get off the road and relax. The car has the rack on the back (we picked it up from the hunting camp on our way to MS) so it's weighing down the back of the car, lifting the front of the front-wheel drive car up a little, making the hydroplaning worse than it should be. Yes, time to get off the road.

So, we're here at the in-laws unexpectedly and are going to stay the night, leaving early in the morning to head back to Auburn so that I can work in the nursery at church and Eli can drive to Birmingham for a full day of Kaplan training. Ugh.

In other exciting news, we close on the house on Monday. :)

Cheers.
